HALO (Health Alliance for Linking to Opportunities)

HALO (Health Alliance for Linking to Opportunities) is a select group of organizations that embody the spirit of community. They demonstrate a steadfast commitment to restoring human health and fostering a happier, more equitable society. When an organization is chosen to receive the Healthy Neighborhood Living Leadership Award, they are inducted into HALO. They then become eligible to receive support from the Healthy Neighborhood network. This includes sharing of opportunities and ideas with other like-minded groups, implementing e commerce, website and social media solutions, support marketing and distribution efforts, and utilizing other resources to open up new ways to collaborate and grow.

Healthy Neighborhood Living Leadership Awards

Healthy Neighborhood Living Leadership Awards were presented during July 2024. It consisted of a live neem tree sapling. The word “neem” is derived from Sanskrit Nimba which means “bestower of
good health”. The Neem tree has been venerated through the ages in the Indian countryside as it provided hope in any situation because of it’s miraculous healing power. The neem plant is presented to these organizations as a symbol of their accomplishments in providing hope and health to the underserved

Tribal Health Initiative (THI)

The work at the Tribal Health Initiative in Sittilingi, Tamil Nadu was recognized for its profound impact on both health and economic stability in the region. By prioritizing the well-being of tribal communities, the Tribal Hospital and associated farming initiatives have not only improved immediate
health outcomes but have also created a sustainable model for rural development. Their efforts demonstrate the power of community-driven solutions and serve as an inspiring example of how integrated healthcare and sustainable agriculture can uplift marginalized communities. Recognizing this work underscores the importance of culturally sensitive and environmentally conscious approaches in addressing rural poverty and health disparities.

Tribal Health Initiative (THI)

In the remote valley of Sittilingi in Tamil Nadu, the Tribal Hospital stands as a beacon of hope and health for the indigenous communities. Founded by Dr. Regi George and Dr. Lalitha Regi, in 1993 the hospital provides accessible and quality healthcare services tailored to the unique needs of the local population. The hospital has become a cornerstone of the community, addressing issues from maternal health to chronic illnesses with a holistic approach. Its motto, “Help Tribals Heal Themselves”, asserts that taking care of the tribal’s health eventually empowered them financially, socially and politically. In conjunction with the hospital, the Sittilingi Organic Farmers Association promotes sustainable agriculture, empowering tribal farmers through organic farming practices that preserve the environment and improve their livelihoods. Together, these initiatives have fostered a self-sustaining model of health and agriculture, rooted in the traditions and needs of the local people.
